I am doing a little pre assembly of some stuff while working on a couple of active builds. In particular I've got a TF Red Box F4U that I've got the balsa and ply out of the sheets and I want to laminate the three assemblies that form the spars for the center section (gull wing) of the wing. There is a balsa leading edge group, a ply group for the main and a second balsa group for the trailing edge that the flaps attach to. The Red Box instructions are perfectly adequate but not as nearly as voluminous as the G.E. The instructions call for epoxing these laminations. I've always been a great one for epoxy where the joint isn't perfect and some gap filling is necessary or where fuel proofing is necessary - fire walls. These are perfectly flat lams and I am thinking that PVA is a better choice. It's going to come out lighter and the glue is stronger than the wood. The PVA is slow curing giving plenty of time to brush a coating on both sides of glue joint and aligning and weighting the pieces. The sheeting isn't epoxied on and so overall the wing depends on the covering and the coating of the wings for it's fuel proofing. Anybody see a problem with this logic?

My second choice would be 30 minute epoxy with a little thinning with alcohol to allow time to brush the stuff onto the pieces before assembly but it's just fussy and messier. Should I purchase it from pva film manufacturer or I can do it by my own with these steps?
