The chief executive officer of front porch cracker barrel, Darell Mckissick, grew up in Maryland, where he became a born-and-bred chef. As a young child, he worked his way up from being a waiter to being a chef and then general manager of an inn. He learned the business from his father, who was a cook and manager at the Maryland inn that his father ran. In turn, Mckissick learned from his own father about business, marketing, and customer service. Cracker Barrel Restaurant opened for the first time in a small brick and mortar establishment in Rockville, Maryland, in 1950. Since then, the restaurant has grown dramatically and is now one of the most popular restaurants in D.C. and its surrounding area. The ambiance of the restaurant is very welcoming and comfortable, especially for those who prefer an informal eating experience. The atmosphere combines Southern hospitality with the relaxed, enjoyable quality of country music.
