Broken Monument is easy to misread as a quick scavenging task, and that mistake usually creates the worst run: players enter the Scrap Yard without a search order, spend too long exposed, then lose the three First Wave objects before reaching safety. A more disciplined approach starts with recognizing how the mission fits into wider progression, including when ARC Raiders BluePrints matter less than protecting quest evidence and preserving useful ammunition.

What Makes This Quest Important

Assigned by Tian Wen after What We Left Behind, Broken Monument takes place in the Scrap Yard area of Dam Battlegrounds. Its objectives are the First Wave compass near broken-down vehicles, the First Wave video tape near cylindrical containers, and old field rations in the Raider camp. As of August 20, 2026, available quest information still lists those locations and the same rewards: an Arpeggio I, a Compensator II, and 80 rounds of Medium Ammo.

The immediate payout is modest compared with the danger of Dam Battlegrounds, but the mission has longer-term value because it advances Tian Wen's quest line. That makes the correct question less about maximum loot and more about risk control. A player who already has strong equipment may value progression more than extra materials, while a newer player should avoid turning a story objective into an expensive recovery attempt.

Build Around the Search

Broken Monument rewards a flexible, low-commitment setup rather than a specialized farming build. The search requires careful observation, and unnecessary weight or valuable equipment can make every encounter more costly. The best preparation is the one that lets you inspect the Scrap Yard, carry the three quest objects, and extract without feeling pressured to chase every additional pickup.

- Use equipment you can afford to risk, especially during an early progression run.

- Keep enough Medium Ammo for unexpected encounters instead of spending the full reserve on optional fights.

- Treat the quest items as higher priority than ordinary salvage once they enter your inventory.

- Save the Arpeggio I and Compensator II decision for after the mission, when their place in your progression is clearer.

This approach suits PVE players who prefer controlled exploration, but it also helps in PVP situations where other Raiders can punish long searches. A heavier investment may provide more confidence in a direct fight, yet it reduces the value of a failed run. For this mission, survival usually offers better long-term value than chasing every nearby resource.

Route And Search Priorities

The Scrap Yard is easier to read when each landmark becomes a separate search phase. Do not sweep the entire area randomly. Moving between unrelated objects increases exposure and makes it harder to remember which clue has already been checked.

Enter from the southern side when that approach gives you a clear view of the vehicle wreckage.
Search around broken-down vehicles first, checking gaps, tires, and nearby debris for the compass.
Move to the cylindrical containers and inspect their edges and surrounding ground for the video tape.
Finish at the Raider camp, checking tables, crates, and nearby ground for the old field rations.
Confirm all three objects are collected before choosing the safest available exit.

In the early game, this order limits backtracking and keeps the objective simple. During the mid-game, it becomes a resource decision: extra materials are only worthwhile if they do not delay extraction. Late-game players can take more freedom with optional exploration, but the quest still does not justify treating the Scrap Yard as a complete farming circuit.

Common Errors And Best Value

The most common mistake is assuming that a completed search prompt means the object is secure. Check the inventory and keep every First Wave item until Tian Wen accepts it. Community reports have also described objective-registration problems after quest objects were dropped or separated, so retaining the full set is the safer choice.

- Do not leave after finding only one or two objects unless the run has become genuinely unsafe.

- Do not spend time searching for an exact glowing marker when the clue points to a wider environmental zone.

- Do not discard quest-related objects to make room for ordinary salvage.

- Do not force a fight simply to protect a low-value pickup when the mission items are already secure.

Broken Monument is most useful for players who value steady progression over dramatic profit. Its rewards help, but the real gain is completing Tian Wen's line without wasting a full loadout. Keep the compass, tape, and rations together, leave once the final objective registers, and use broader ARC Raiders Items planning only after the quest is safely complete.
