One example is this: THC is extracted from let’s say a strain called Durban Poison. That’s more sativa leaning and might naturally give an energy boost and lots of euphoria, happy feelings etc . But when they extract the THC only via lab extraction (there are different methods ), the terpenes/terpenoids /flavonoids and many others Cannabinoids present in the plant get lost through the extraction process.

Terpenes and terpenoids are what gives each distinct plant its specific effects . All plants have a combination of different terpenes and compound of cannabinoids and flavors . Example pinene, Linalool, limonene, myrcene to name a few . Just like essential oils from other naturally existing plants. Some help with depression, happiness, opens up your lungs , appetite, sleep.

Many companies try to extract the terpenes as much as they can and then extract the THC or whatever cannabinoid they want to get separately. Terpenes degrade very quickly and need special care so they maintain their potency).

Then once the oil is extracted it doesn’t have any properties that would define it as Durban poison anymore ( like extracting vitamin C from any fruit that has it) vitamins C doesn’t give as much benefits as eating the entire fruit with all the other components like the other vitamins ,and fiber etc .

So now you’ve got plain THC oil , you need to reintroduce either botanical or cannabis derived terpenes to give that oil it’s specific effects .

Most companies buy large amounts of trim and left overs from the plant that are no longer good enough to sell that way because it’s looked at as lower quality. This includes a mix of different strains all mixed up and sold in bulk.They extract the wanted cannabinoids from the plant and that way the potency is a lot higher than from the natural plant but again it’s very hard to extract many cannabinoids from your batch . Then they separate the oil and choose the terpene profile that matches the specific strain they want to sell . You can use your batch of trim , extract the THC & separate this oil in different batches and add different terpenes to each of your separated batches .The terpenes added to the oil give you the effect of the specific strain you’re buying , without the added terpenes your high is very flat and not full spectrum & and effects might all be the same in each cartridge . They add back the terpene profile of specific strains they want to imitate and now they can sell you several different strains all made with the same mixture of trimmed cannabis but now the strain will vary on your cartridge depending on the terpene profile they add to each batch made.

With smoking vapes in my opinion , there is less of an entourage effect & it makes me feel like I’m high or getting relief for like 30 mins and then my high disappears quickly without me even feeling the slow come down. It makes me feel like I’m getting a knock off “high” vs a rich and well rounded high .I like to feel the entire rollercoaster instead of just going up and down very quickly .
